Acupuncture can be a valuable support at all stages of pregnancy from the early days after conception to birth and also for postnatal care.

Early stages

Research has shown acupuncture to be effective for the treatment of nausea and vomiting. This is very common in the first trimester of pregnancy. For women who have experienced recurrent miscarriages, it can be a valuable support at this most stressful time.

Women experience a number of problems during their pregnancy. This includes back & hip pain, pubic symphysis disorder, heartburn, breech presentation, blood pressure imbalances, low iron levels and other conditions.

Acupuncture can be helpful for maintaining optimum health at this important life changing time. Lifestyle and nutritional advice according to the principles of Chinese medicine form an integral part of the consultation and treatment.

From the fifth month of pregnancy, women can be taught to do daily moxa treatment to support their pregnancy.

Pre-birth preparation

It is recommended that women have regular acupuncture treatment from 36 weeks onwards in order to help them prepare both physically and mentally for a more efficient labour.

Acupressure during labour

Sessions are also offered to women and their birth partners to come to learn about using acupressure during labour. It gives the birth partner a focused role and is stimulating, relaxing and versatile, empowering both the labouring woman and her partner.
