Happy year of the Wood Dragon
In Chinese culture, the Dragon symbolises talent, power and excellence.
It is up to us how we choose to interpret the significance of these aspects in a way that is meaningful for us in the coming year.TALENT can be about acknowledging and appreciating certain qualities that we already have – maybe that we take for granted. It might be about wanting to further develop talents or start something new that we have always wanted to do.I was in the fortunate position of being able to spend time recently in the alps under the Matterhorn – in the presence of awesome scenery that felt other worldly. Having only taken up skiing in recent years (some would say, I’m mad!) – I am not sure I would say this is a talent of mine. However, I can see how each time I get an opportunity to get out onto the slopes – I have to overcome certain fears and I can see improvements and that I’m taking on new challenges each time.

POWER – what does this mean to us? This word often has negative connotations, particularly when it is about one person, country, institution etc taking control over another. We can look at our own internal power – and conversely what it feels like when we feel powerless. What are the areas of our lives where we feel ‘in control’ (or at least have the illusion of this) – where at least we have agency – free speech/free will – opportunities to express ourselves, to be true to ourselves and our values.
I recently spent some time doing an exercise, looking at what my core values are and how I get to express these and what are the values that help to guide me and motivate me in the things I do and the activities I take on. It’s an interesting exercise that comes from a book from one of my Tapping mentors/teachers – Steve Wells.
The book is called 100% YES and offers a range of exercises to explore your values and what might be holding you back from achieving your goals or at least enabling you to feel more contented with your life.
EXCELLENCE – how can we be the best version of ourselves? Striving to do better but also being ok with how we are and accepting of ourselves (and our shortcomings!). I spend a lot of time in the tapping work I do with clients, exploring the blocks to self acceptance and the lack of freedom that comes from feeling that perfection is the holy grail. So let us continue to cultivate loving kindness towards ourselves first and foremost, so that we can then also share this with others.
2024 is forecast to be a year for change, opportunity and challenges.
The Wood Dragon year 2024 brings evolution, improvement, and abundance.
Change is a given – let’s embrace this with a feeling of flow.
Opportunity is what we make it – staying open to not knowing what is around the corner.
Challenges can be embraced with a feeling that we can only do the best we can with the resources we have available to us.
I for one am looking forward to what 2024 has to bring.
