Welcome to Japanese Acupuncture Clinic Finchley

I set up Japanese Acupuncture Clinic Finchley at the end of November 2020, having moved my practice from Highgate where I ran a clinic for 16 years from my treatment room in the garden.

I was delighted to then find this beautiful self-contained clinic space that was originally run by a colleague of mine who then moved to Spain. Serendipitous timing indeed to be able to move my clinic seamlessly and have my patients happily move with me.

The clinic offers Acupuncture, Chiropractic and Physiotherapy and is utilised seven days a week.

    Welcome

    Welcome to Japanese Acupuncture London

I am delighted to be celebrating my 34th year in clinical practice and what a rich three decades it has been!

I work in North London, practising in East Finchley and in Newington Green.

I treat a wide range of physical conditions (including pain related ailments) and emotional & mental health conditions. I also have a particular interest & extensive experience of treating fertility & pregnancy related issues & helping women & their partners prepare for childbirth.

I treat babies, children (with a special non-invasive style of Japanese acupuncture)  & teenagers through to the elderly.

Since the pandemic, many people have been seeking support with their Long Covid symptoms. Consultation & treatment includes looking at lifestyle & all the ways you can support yourself through this challenging experience.

I worked for many years in an NHS GP practice (read about my study & published paper on the clinical outcomes of using acupuncture with chronic conditions). I taught for many years at the University of Westminster & currently teach Japanese acupuncture in the UK and internationally.

Specialising in Japanese Acupuncture, a gentle and effective form of treatment, using very fine needles, superficial, painless insertion and non-inserted techniques. This hands-on approach to diagnosis and treatment offers a dynamic system of feedback to both patient and practitioner. Click here for more information: Acupuncture Styles

As an Advanced EFT practitioner (Emotional Freedom Technique – aka ‘tapping’), I can also offer remote sessions. ‘Tapping’ is a powerful & effective way of managing stress, anxiety & other emotional related issues that impact on our physical and mental health. It literally involves tapping on acupuncture points whilst focussing on the specific thoughts, feelings & physical issues that need attention. I also teach you to apply this wonderfully simple and effective technique at home. EFT can help you navigate a way through and strengthen your inner resources and make fundamental changes to your life. Click here for more information EFT Tapping

A 94 year old patient of mine sent this email just after her treatment:

“This is just to tell you that your treatment has boosted my energy level quite remarkably. I am really amazed.  Thank you!!”

I have had four sessions of Japaneses acupuncture over the last few weeks and there has been a marked improvement in my level of mobility and pain relief. After the first session although there was still quite restricted mobility and pain when walking there was an underlying stability in the knee which was not there before; this improvement has continued..A combination of acupuncture a daily routine of knee exercises and Ibuprofen has markedly reduced the time it has taken my knee to recover compared to the previous quite severe flare up.

I saw Marian after two attempts at implanting IVF embryos had failed. I found her very calm and encouraging, and the treatment seemed to have swift effect. Within a month my menstrual cycle was more regular. After two months I implanted an IVF embryo, which was successful, and I now have a healthy baby daughter.

Apart from being a lovely personality, Marian's acupuncture treatment proved to be invaluable for me during my pregnancy. All of my pregnancy related conditions, like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, oedema and a posterior baby have found relief and got significantly better after some treatments. I feel that my body is well prepared for labour now. Marian also introduced me and my partner to acupressure for labour, resulting in my partner becoming very confident and involved with a very positive approach towards the birth of our baby. Thank you very much for all your help, Marian.

Many people actively seek out Japanese Acupuncture due to its gentle, painless approach. Immediate effects and changes are experienced both by patients and practitioner alike. It is a very hands-on way of working, whereby tight tender points are identified and released, thereby assisting with improving circulation of Qi (energy) and blood and thereby relieving symptoms. Effects can be immediately felt as pain lessens or goes completely, range of function is improved and the body’s natural functioning is restored.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect when coming for my first acupuncture consultation?

Most people, whatever condition they are coming for, find acupuncture very relaxing. Needling involves very fine needles, which are either inserted very gently and painlessly or are not inserted at all and stimulation happens at the skin surface. After treatment, you may feel a little sleepy and it is best to leave a bit of time so that you can take things easy.

How do I prepare for my acupuncture consultation?

    Ideally come wearing loose clothing.

Make sure you have eaten on the day of your treatment but try to leave some time after eating before your session so that you are not coming with a full stomach.

Please do not drink alcohol on the day of your treatment.

It is also best to leave time after your session, so that you don’t have to go rushing off anywhere.

It is also best to avoid strenuous exercise after you have had acupuncture.

What can I expect to feel during and after my acupuncture session?

Ahead of your appointment, I will send you an Initial consultation form to complete. It is helpful if you can provide me with detailed information about both current and past medical history. I will review this information ahead of your session  which will help guide the treatment and to decide on your treatment plan. If you have any medical reports, you can also email these to me.

During the first session, we will discuss the reason you are coming for treatment and I may well ask some more questions about your general health, well-being, lifestyle and diet (where relevant).

Acupuncture treatment is based on what is called the Four Diagnosis – Asking, Looking, Listening and Touching. I may ask to see your tongue and will do a thorough exam including abdominal and pulse diagnosis.

Your first consultation will also include a treatment.
