It has been 35  years since I qualified as an acupuncturist – what a fulfilling three and a half decades it has been! I feel so fortunate to have found a calling (that is how it feels) that I still find engaging and stimulating.

The acupuncture profession continues to grow and flourish with increasing research being available that verifies the efficacy of what we do. Many new approaches  are developed all the time and I myself continue to evolve how I work, endeavouring to tailor treatment to the needs of each individual who comes to see me.  I feel blessed to have such a rich tool kit at my fingertips that enables me to respond to my patients whatever age they are – from new borns to the elderly.

My interest in East Asian medicine began when I was living in Japan and studying shiatsu, back in 1987/88. After returning to the UK, I qualified in acupuncture in 1991. This was followed by further intensive clinical training in a teaching hospital in Nanjing, China. Since 1998, I have specialised in  Japanese acupuncture systems, training in the UK, the Netherlands and Japan. I taught for many years as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Westminster and as a guest lecturer at other acupuncture colleges in the UK. I am passionate about making Japanese acupuncture more widely available to practitioners and patients, organising and teaching post-graduation courses in the UK and abroad.

My clinical experience includes:

• Working for many years in a busy GP practice on the NHS.
• Working in organisations for people with immune related conditions and drug and alcohol projects – in particular HIV/AIDS.
• Running my own private practice since 1991 & working in a multi-disciplinary clinic.
• Supporting couples who are trying to conceive and offering pregnancy support with particular emphasis on lifestyle and nutritional advice. I am a member of the Acupuncture Childbirth Team (ACT) and served on the Steering Committee for many years.
• Treating young babies & children, using a non-invasive style of Japanese acupuncture, called Shonishin.

I have published numerous articles on Japanese acupuncture and have undertaken research that has been published in professional journals. I have presented papers at the British Acupuncture Council’s Research Symposium & at the British Acupuncture Council conference.

For many years, I was the President of the Toyohari Association UK, a member of the European Branch of the Toyohari Association (EBTA)
